Wahaca Resturant review

@thomasinamiers and @wahaca together are a perfect match. Anyone who knows me knows that I am highly critical of Mexican food to the point of a fine line between amusement and annoyance to some of my fiends.I have long been excited about the opening of Wahacca and already own a copy of the Mexican Food Made Simple cook book available from Amazon by clicking this link.

I downloaded the menu from the very colourful website ahead of time and eagerly anticipated the different tastes that awaited me.

The tequila is a very good judge of how authentic a Mexican restaurant will be and the quality of the food you will expect. The tequila menu looked like some thought had gone into it. I noted that bloggers and facebook users had also been consulted. Next time count me in if you have space. There is tequila and there is TEQUILA. Wahacca serves the latter and my tastes were catered for with some fantastic anjeo offerings.

On arrival you get some wonderful nachos and salsa. The chill power would not wound any chili head but the flavour will definitely still impress. The on the table chilli sauce too is authentic as it should be using a habanero sauce pictures on the right. I obviously like my sauces and I always have some authentic Mexican hot sauce in my cupboard like Cholula Chipotle Sauce available from scorchio by clicking this link

For food I wanted all of it Wahaca selection particularly the pork pilbil as this dish is hard to find in the uk and not often done well. But if you can find a good one... I went for the Wahaca Selection

3 pork pibil tacos, 3 winter vegetable tacos, 1 large huitlacoche quesadilla, 2 black bean tostadas, 2 chicken taquitos with green rice and black beans for two people to share. I was notably speechless but had a large grin on my face. My search for a positive Mexican experience and great food in the us in finally over. There are other restaurants available sure but Wahaca is the new KING.

The pilbil was juicy and full of flavour, the quesadilla not just a pile of cheese but of taste, tacos prepared the authentic way with one of the supermarket style flavours fooling the public. The black beans and salsa mixed perfectly with all flavours and the whole experience is something I cant express how good it was. When you go to pay.... get this they actually give you some free chilli seeds too to spread

the chili love! basically just go there and enjoy yourself

The menu has already changed and I cant wait to try the new autumn dishes check it out here

If you want more information on Wahacca check out their website and blog it is constantly up to date with news offers and all kinds of cool mexicana!

Finally please Thomasina look at opening a Wahacca in Brighton and I will be a regular customers

@CaJohnFieryFood Holy Jolokia Sauce:

CaJohn's Holy Jolokia Hot SauceSupport @chilepepperinst by buying a bottle of Holy Jolokia Hot Sauce and the Chile Pepper Institute in Mexico will receive a portion of the bottle sales helps to fund research and education at the Institute into the wonderful chilli pepper that we all love.

The Chile Pepper Institute is an international nonprofit organization devoted to education, research, and archiving information related to Capsicum. Since its inception in 1992, it has been a recognized research institute in the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences at New Mexico State University

Holy Jolokia Hot Sauce is very special indeed! A 2010 Golden Chile Winner from a great hot sauce producer CaJohns who continues to  go from strength to strength with his ever expanding range of unique and quality sauces. The hot sauce contains the Bhut Jolokia chili, measured at over a million Scoville Heat Units. This chili is also sometimes referred to as the ghost chilli or ghost pepper holding a Guinness World Record in 2007 for the hottest chilli in the world.

Bhut Jolokia

Not only will you be doing good by buying this sauce helping the research and development of the chilli pepper, you wont be disappointed by the fresh flavour and heat the sauce gives you in return. A notable interesting ingredient is 'lemon extract' which lifts and compliments the heat of the Bhut Jolokia surprisingly well. In fact the bottle claims:

"Caution: Your taste buds may cry out, "Holy Jolokia"

I found that I really couldn't put this sauce down and it felt great at the same time (maybe from the chilli buzz) that I was supporting the institute too. Pick up a bottle of Holy Jolokia from Scorchio by clicking here and see if you will cry out 'Holy Jolokia'. Tell your friends about this blog post so that they can add their support too.

Please publish this blog post on Twitter with the buttons below and +1 with the google button too. Lets grow all the support we can to help continue the great research.

Thank you and enjoy!

Capitan Bravo Habanero Hot Sauce

Capitan Bravo Habanero Hot Sauce
Capitan Bravo Habanero Hot Sauce
I was pleasantly surprised on receiving this hot sauce through my 'scorchio hot sauce club'. Capitan Bravo is not someone I was aware of and if I am honest would probably not have chosen this chilli if it hadn't been selected for me by luck. Which is why I think it deserves a mention and a mini hot sauce review.

The chili sauce itself comes from Mexican and is 100% HOME-MADE claiming on the bottle "an exceptional flavor for any kind of meal."

The whole feel and flavour of this chile sauce is something different to what you will be used to and this is a good thing! The sauce contains olive oil which emulsifies giving the sauce a consistency like a salad dressing which at first i found very strange. However the distinct flavours of the Mexican grown habanero, carrot, salt, spices and, onion powder combine with the oil in a wonderful way. I have had to think a bit of different ways to use this unique wonderful sauce. It make a tasty but messy taco and great to drizzle over chips or a over dull salad to bring it alive! Where every you might use a dressing in your meals try this hot sauce as a substitute.

I believe it is always good to get some Mexican spirit into you cooking so pick some Capitan Bravo Habanero Hot Sauce up here.

Mexican Food Made Easy

I have recently been bought Master Chef winner Thomasina Miers Mexican Food Made Simple cook book. I was not aware of this book before and have to say it is fantastic and full of wonderful ideas demonstrating how exciting and delicious traditional Mexican food can be! The book clearly explains with lovely illustrations how to get the best from your different chillis and Mexican ingredients. There are soo many recipe's including soft corn tacos, tostados, quesadillas, Mexican chille con carne, Grilled Seabass and even some traditional sweets too including churros with chocolate sauce. I have tried many recipe's from the book and am slowly going to work my way through the whole lot!! Not every recipe has overpowering flavours as you might expect, their are many subtle flavours and unique ideas put in practice too.

The book itself is filled with great colorful pictures throughout, and easy step by step guides like folding the perfect burrito, eating a taco and plenty more true medical tips so you can even plan your own Mexican theme day with friends or just enjoy a fantastic meal anytime. I have learnt soo much from this book, fueling my growing love of Mexico and Mexican food. Through reading the book too I have discovered Thomasina Mires has a number of restaurants http://www.wahaca.co.uk/. I hope to check one of them out when I am next in London this August and plan to let you know how I get on. As my Friends will tell you I can be very critical of Mexican food and this book gets my vote so take a look pick yourself up a copy soon.

Also check out her series on TV at the moment every Tuesday on channel five where there are great competitions and demonstration of dishes like real Mexican chilli and guacamole how it should be!
