Our family run business based in Herts create chilli sauces, chilli chocolates, and soon locally pressed chilli infused rapeseed oils. This year we have been invited to a local chilli festival in Bedford on fathers day, however we have no marquee, banners, tables etc which are essential to have for a stall. Also, our website is just a holding page, and requires attention (and funds!) We would love the £500 to boost us towards making these projects a reality, so we can increase the heat in the chilli world, face to face and via the web.

@GrimreaperFoods Hell Raiser Chocolate Review

Grim Reaper's Hell Raiser Milk Chilli Chocolate
Its the start of a new year and no doubt you have had too much chocolate. But have you had any quality chocolate?
Grim Reaper's Hell Raiser Milk Chilli Chocolate is chocolate for chilli heads. There are plenty of chocolates out there with 'a hint' of chilli but this one is not designed for those people.

As Grim Reaper foods develops their packaging designs continue to grow. This bad has the great touch of being sealed on the edge with a ribbon with I love. The packet says

"With Devilishly Hot Naga Jolokia, Sweet Orange, Clove Oil & Cinnamon Can you Handle the Heat?Innocent milk chocolate corrupted with Naga chillies, orange oil, clove oil and cinnamon, bringing you heat summoned from the deepest depths of hell. This devilishly hot bar will test even the most seasoned of chilli lovers!"
I would say that is a very accurate and honest description of the wonderful contents awaiting you inside. Each  bar of  Hell Raiser is hand made by the Reaper himself. Not content like others of just adding a bit of chilli to some chocolate, care and though has gone into the overall flavor and balance of this product. You dont just get chocolate or just and overwhelming sense of chilli heat as you might expect. Instead with natural vanilla; essential oil of sweet orange, cinnamon, and essential oil of clove the flavor is in fact quite complex. The heat is provided courtesy of 0.5 Naga Jolokia Chilli, On its own this chilli is known to be potent and also very fruity, using just the right amount you get a nice dose of heat to be satisfied as a chili head but also not too much to overpower the cinnamon and orange. Finally the bar does have a cool name too!

If you don't think you can stop at just one bar of chocolate you can buy the full set of these three innovative chili chocolates by clicking the picture below or clicking

@GrimReaperFoods White chilli chocolate review

Grim Reaper's Purgatory White Chilli Chocolate#Purgatory I must start this review by explaining that I am not a great chocolate fan. Its just doesn't excite me and much to the confusion of my friends I freeze chocolate before eating it just to add some texture as I like the snap. Before now I have tried quite a few chili chocolates and almost all of them chicken out adding just hint of chilli into the bar generally leavign my taste buds disappointed. Grim Reaper's new white Chilli chocolate Purgatory has changed my views on chilli chocolate forever!

The packaging you can see on the left is simple and stunning. An awesome graphic and nice touch of branded ribbon in the side. The writing on the packet continues the familiar wonderful theatrical style accompanying all Grim Reaper products.

"Punished with Hot Naga Jolokia, mixed spices, Cocoa Nibs and Bergamot

Cleanse your soul and confess your sins with this precious White Chocolate Bar. Blended with Cocoa Nibs, Bergamot Oil and Mixed Spices... Are you pure enough to enter a world of heavenly taste?"

On opening the colourful packaging you are greeted with an innocent bar of white chocolate noticeably speckled with hidden treats. Once you bite into the creamy white bar you are greeted with  the delicate warming orange spice of the bergamont balanced with the natural vanilla. The cocoa nibs provide you with a crunchy texture and then BAM! almost unexpected you get the heat of the naga jolokia which is enough to gain the notice of a true chili head but not to much to make it unpleasant or an endurance test. Don't fear or avoid this chocolate if you don't like the power of the naga, the mix of the flavours may sound complex and powerful, possibly too many, but I assure you they are skillfully blended and balanced generating a moreish delight. This blows other chilli chocolates out of the water who just have two flavours and no texture. As I sit here there is one square left from the bar.... I must find some more...

You may be thinking... this sounds good. Don't just take my word for it I came home to a delivery of 2.5 bars of chocolate, the white one had been munched before I even got to open the packet myself!  Grim Reaper's Purgatory chocolate is also winner of a much deserved 2011 National Chilli Award. If you like what you hear pick yourself up a bar of Purgatory by clicking here from Scorchio

If you don't think you can stop at just one bar of chocolate you can buy the full set of these three innovative chili chocolates by clicking the picture below or clicking
here to get Hell Raiser, Black Widow and Purgatory be warned though these are literally so good that at the time of writing this review I know the entire first batch is sold out. But never fear the Reaper is working on a further 2200 bars over this weekend to feed your hunger!

Rookie Goblin Grim Reaper Foods

@GrimReaperFoods, who made their debut with a the awesome  The Evil One Hot Sauce' winning the

Fiery Foods Festival in 2010 have now released a new hot sauce using jalapeno peppers Rookie Goblin Hot Sauce. Grim Reaper foods range is rapidly expanding and this jalapeno sauce adds a tasty entry level step to the growing selection.

When I first wrote this review the initial batch of Rookie Goblin Hot Sauce sold out very quickly. It took me a while visiting the local shows to get my hands on some to taste. Based on the last sauce I tried from this producer I knew that this one was likely to be tasty and I was right.

The ingredients or oranges and limes bring a great citrus note to the taste of this sauce. An interesting ingredient of note is the coriander. I would use this sauce in a number of Mexican dishes like fresh fish Tacos or a layer in each enchilada before you wrap and bake them. With the winning combination of coriander, jalapenos and spring onions I would also add The Goblin to a salsa verde if you can get hold of some green tomatillos

The label looks very cool and sinister though it does remind me a little of the monster from the movie The Forbidden Planet... perhaps the sauce has a secret forbidden ingredient?

In summary this is a tasty entry level sauce that everyone should love, a great additive to almost any Mexican dish and yet another sign of more good things to come from this new company

Jekyll or Hyde Hot Sauce Review:

Jekyll or Hyde - You Decide!@GrimReaperFoods have produced something special and unique. The Reaper has kindly provided me with a sneak peak of something that will both tempt and intrigue you from his hot sauce range. Jekyll or Hyde … you decide.

On the bottle you find: "Alone in the laboratory the doctors experiment was complete. Dare she try the potion… why not? What harm could it do?"

I love the building story that comes with this line of sauces from Grim Reaper Foods, it give an overall feeling of the dark arts at work in an underground kitchen.

Jekyll or Hyde begins with Chipotle chilli sauce in the larger bottle. This sauce is gorgeously sticky and thick and will work well as the bottle suggests with dishes like pulled pork and ribs adding a lovely warmth to your food and depth of flavour with the golden syrup. This sauce on its own is very tasty and worthy of production by itself. However the fiery foods award winning Reaper (Russell Williams) likes to do things a little different and always goes that extra mile to bring us a not just a good sauce but a truly great sauce!

Jekyll's Potion: Now this where it gets interesting, Jekyll's potion is added drop by drop to the sauce and this serious stuff, basically pure chili "do not ingest in pure form."

The joy from the true experimentation Jekyll’s potion allows you have, makes this more than just another hot chili sauce. You can have the basic sauce which tastes great on its own or become "Hyde", pimping your sauce with some powerful heat from the potion to you personal taste. This makes the sauce very versatile as you can pour out different pots of it and individually mix. Why not create your own laboratory with different pots or event test tubes and create your own selections of sauces.. evil laugh optional.

I played around with different mixes using a couple of teaspoons of sauce and adding increasing drops of potion you can actually see the stuff working and with each taste you find yourself returning for more and adding 'just a little more potion... after all what harm can a little more do' Beware this stuff is extremely moreish and can also become very hot very quickly and I love it!

If you are a chilli or hot sauce fan then this sauce is a must in your collection. You just have to experience the pleasure, pain and sheer fun to be had with such a combination. Jekyll or Hyde - You Decide! is now available from Scorchio by Clicking here or the picture above.

PS: I do worry what fellow insane hot sauce reviewer Darth Naga will do with the potion, i'm sure something will pop up on you-tube or maybe the national news.....

The Evil One

@GrimReaperFoods were a new company to me. On a regular trip to Chilli Pepper Petes store to stock up I noticed that this sauce first had a very cool name The Evil One Hot Sauce and was Fiery Foods UK chilli award winner 2010.

“and so it was, with the sands of time expired, the Reaper came for what now was his to collect, however his plans were far more sinister, his instructions were simple, to remain amongst us, to increase the heat, and to be known from now and for ever as ‘the Evil one’

With a build up like that and always eager to try a new hot sauce and support new uk chili suppliers I picked up a bottle. Grim Reaper Foods are a very new company and their first sauce lives up to its name. The 100ml bottle of hot sauce contains Scotch Bonnet chile, orange capsicums, red capsicums, onions, cider vinegar, oranges, white wine vinegar, sugar, lemons, carrots, naga jolokia chillies, salt, citric acid, chilli oleoresin @ 6% Pure (1 million Scovilles) So as you might guess it has a good kick to it!

Alongside the kick you get a delicious combination of citrus flavours from the orange and a hint of sweetness with the heat making this a sauce like no other I had tried before.
I have used this Evil One Hot Sauce covering chicken wings and drumsticks to take advantage of the sweet sticky flavour and caramelising through cooking. Its great too with fish,  burgers or just to spice up your favourite dish. Beware though a bottle this size and this tasty will not last you very long and you could be calling on the reaper sooner than you expect. If you would like to try some pick up a bottle by clicking here to challenge the Reaper! Enjoy.

Since writing this review for Grim Reaper Foods I have learnt that the reaper has now launched his second sauce The Rookie Goblin currently available from the reaper himself on his very own store I have yet to try some but hope to soon and will let you know what it is like.

Top Ten chilli Hot Sauces

I came across this article from the independent news paper listing the 'top ten hot sauces' I have to say this list was probably not complied by a true chilli head. It got me thinking what my top ten sauces would be, I have so many that I am finding it hard to choose. There is an excellent collection of lists from some true chilli heads here on Scott Roberts site Thinking through what would be in my top ten and decided that I cant rank them in my mind but these sauces are usually stocked in my chilli shelf at home. Leave your comments below what would be in your top ten!

I have added a link to each Hot Sauce so you can pick some up for your self or find out more

The Evil One Hot Sauce by Grim Reaper foods - UK
Hatari Acid Rain Sauce by Hatari Hot sauces - Canada
Oak Smoked Chipotle Sauce Upton Cheyney Chilli Company - UK
The Rookie Goblin by Grim Reaper foods

There are also so many sauces I have yet to try and so many new quality producers springing up everywhere so this list and my shelves will grow
