@SDCF_CO_UK Hot Habanero Sauce Review:

South Devon Chilli Farm Hot Habanero SauceThe South Devon Chilli farm produce a very wide range of products. I have visited their farm and they shop is well worth dropping by if you ever get the chance.

This week I have been trying their Hot Habanero Sauce. The bottle is 100ml and has their great logo at the top with an almost innocent looking picture of a chilli giving no real indication of the Rating 150,000-200,000 Scoville heat contained within.

The bottle says "The Habanero is the King of chillies - a great flavour and VERY HOT. The chillies used in the sauce are grown and cooked on our farm."

To get you thinking this sauce is Winner of a Gold Great Taste Award 2005 and 2007. As well as winner of a one-star gold Great Taste Award 2010.

The ingredients highlight the purity of the sauce 50% fresh Habanero chillies from their farm cider vinegar, fresh lemon juice, salt. The habanero chili is a very fruity chilli packed with natural flavour alongside its impressive heat rating so not much is needed alongside it. I am pleased the South Devon Chilli farm have stuck to this and only added sweet sharpness to the powerful flavour.

Its true to say that and hot sauce containing habanero is mainly about heat, but the taste of this one accentuates all that is good about the habanero providing a rich full flavour not found in many equivalent sauces available in teh market. the sauce itself is quite runny as its mostly pure but not too runny than something like Tabasco's version of the Habanero sauce

South Devon Chilli Farm Hot Habanero Sauce can be used on its own dashed onto any food but is ideal for adding heat and flavour to spicy dishes. A few drops go a long way when used as a table condiment.

You can pick yourself up a bottle from Scorchio by clicking here enjoy and check out their other products available.

Pain Is Good Jamaican Hot Sauce Review

Pain is Good - Batch #114 Jamaican Hot SauceI thought I would follow on from the review of Levi Roots with Pain is Good Jamaican Hot Sauce. Each bottle of Pain is Good range from the USA comes with the same distinct labels of someone in pain enjoying the wonderful sauce inside. I like this shape of bottle for any sauce and even the label comes with a mini story:

"In the jungles of Jamaica, far from the soft, white beaches and luxury resorts, there's a small shack with a small garden. In the garden, Scotch Bonnet and Habanero peppers are grown. In the shack, jerk sauce is made with them. In the mouths of those who eat it, a strange voodoo begins to take hold, consuming the body, mind and soul in a fiery, hypnotic euphoria. In this bottle is that sauce. In this world there is no sensational quite like it"

This hot sauce has classic Jamaican seriously hot flavour, but with plenty more to offer than cheap imitations. The heat comes from the powerful habanero pepper alongside a sharp twang from pineapple juice and finally jerk seasoning giving the characteristic Jamaican taste you expect.

I tried this sauce for the first time in August 2011 in a new chilli shop in Brighton run by Chilli Pepper Pete. On first taste I was a little disappointed as there was definitely Jamaican flavour but it just lacked something. I bought a bottle to experiment with and quickly learnt that this sauce comes alive when added to chicken for a classic Jerk style dish... obviously with rice and peas!

Adding Pain is Good Jamaican Hot Sauce to simple dishes like good old cheese on toast is a definite winning combo too, (you will never use worchestershire sauce again) A few dollops in your bolognese also brings it alive from the sale old dish. Generally this sauce appears to go better with cooked dishes rather than as a dipping sauce. However it is a great one to have in your fridge to add a twist to many dishes to surprise your guests and sometimes even yourself when you re-heat the next day and forget you have added hababeros!

Da Bomb Beyond Insanity Hot sauce Review

Da' Bomb Beyond InsanityDa' Bomb Beyond Insanity is a hot sauce that focuses on purely heat. The bottle claims to be:

"One of the hottest sauces on earth! Pure habanero pepper enhanced with habanero infused flavor create a sauce measured at 119,700 scoville units. Wicked beyond belief!"

There is no doubt that this is a leader of a hot sauce from the USA with a reasonable price tag of arounf £5.50 for a 4oz bottle. The ingredients are quite basic: Habanero peppers, water, natural pepper flavouring, vinegar and spices. but boy do they pack in the Habanero peppers into this hot sauce. For me this sauce lacked flavour but does have a hint of smokiness.

If heat is your thing and you like cool looking hot sauce names in your collection then pick up a bottle of Da' Bomb Beyond Insanity from Scorchio by clicking here or on the bottle.

Upton Cheyney Chilli Sunshine Sauce review:

@Chilli_Farmer have again delighted me with Sunshine sauce the third hot sauce I have tried from the good people at the Upton Cheyney Chilli Company.

As with all their hot sauces the label has their trademark homely design to it welcoming you in and how can you resist a a very funky looking sun holding a couple of chilli peppers!

The bottle says "A hot sauce with flavours of summer including pineapple, honey and lime. Drizzle over salad for a taste of sunshine"

The ingredients are truly summery ingredients including pineapple which gives that sunshine feel. The addition of honey provides the sweetness and habanero lets you feel the heat of the sun. This hot sauce does not focus on the heat of the habanero and will not blow your head off. Instead the other ingredients compliment the natural fruity flavour of the habanero and this is a good thing. The overall sauce is a great for livening up all manner of salads or as a dip. I found sunshine sauce went well with pizza and a rather interesting prawn stir fry.

Why should you buy this sauce....The passion the Upton Cheyney Chilli Company have for their farm and their products is clear, and this is evident in the quality of the sauces they produce. Their chilis are organic and home grown and their ever expanding range of sauces are ones you should check out. If habanero heat is not for don't worry they have a full range of tasty stuff worth giving a go, including my favourite 'oak smoked chipotle sauce'

Check out their online farm shop here and pick up a bottle of sunshine from them direct and support this UK company. I certainly look forward to working my way through the rest of their sauces.

Upton Cheyney Mango, Lime and Habanero Hot Sauce Review

@chilli_farmer in Upton Cheyney kindly provided me with a bottle of their Mango, Lime and Habanero Hot Sauce to try. The bottle has their trademark appealing homely look to it, giving the sauce a real organic feel before you even try it. Checking out the ingredients the ones that caught my eye were cider vinegar, red and orange habanero and interestingly English mustard which I believe adds a stroke of genius to the flavour.
The bottle says: An exotic hot sauce, based on mango and lime for a bitter sweet taste with red habanero's for a fiery finish. Be aware - it's is a very HOT sauce!

Upton Cheyney Chilli Company - Mango, Lime & Habanero Sauce

I tried this hot sauce over a fillet of salmon with a nice crunchy salad. The red habaneros indeed give this sauce its kick tempered only by the cool well matched mango and sharpened just enough by the lime. I would definitely buy this sauce again and will be investigating where I can use it in my next dish tonight. Im thinking a spiced yoghurt dip to go with a curry...

Why should you but this sauce....The passion the Upton Cheyney chilli Company have for their farm and their products is clear, and this is evident in the quality of the sauces they produce. Their chilis are organic and home grown and their ever expanding range of sauces are ones you should check out. If habanero heat is not for don't worry they have a full range of tasty stuff worth giving a go.

Check out their online farm shop here and pick up a bottle from them direct or from Scorchio by clicking here and look forward to a bottle of joy from these easy going people.

Marie Sharps Habanero Pepper Sauce

I like a good habanero sauce with my eggs in the morning and this recent addition to my hot chili collection hit the spot this morning. Marie Sharp's Habanero Pepper SauceMarie Sharp's Habanero Pepper Sauce - 148ml claims to be the finest product of its kind. The make a change from other hot chili sauces you may be familiar with this unique carrot-based blend achieves the great balance between flavor and heat, the addition of lime sharpens up the sauce too. Marie Sharp's secret homemade recipe utilizes the potent red Habanero pepper. The peppers used are produced in the fertile paradise of Belize. The bottle claims that her red Habanero is considered to be the hottest variety of pepper known to man. Though these days we all know other hotter varieties of chili have been produced such as the wonderful naga pepper featured in may popular sauces today. Marie has spent many years cultivating a Habanero worthy of her recipe and her special peppers bring some real magic to this sauce and a real home made feel to the whole packaging and presentation. If your a hardened chilli fan then this sauce will not blow your socks off with the heat but the flavour is wonderful and different so give something new a try. I already know it goes well with eggs in the morning but by the taste of it Marie Sharps Habanero sauce would be a great accompaniment to BBQ chicken or just in a pitta bread or even as a side to some good Caribbean food like Levi Roots cooks on TV. click here to get some homemde Marie Sharp's Habanero Pepper Sauce

Daves Gormet Insanity Salsa

Dave's Gourmet Insanity Salsa
Daves Gourmet Insanity Salsa
Im a big fan of Daves Gourmet range and am slowly working my way through his hot sauces (next one Dave's Gourmet Ghost Pepper Naga Jolokia Hot Sauce). This humble looking 340g Jar of salsa from the states contains some dangerous stuff! Any chili product that comes with a warning like this "Use this product with caution. Keep away from eyes, pets and children. Not for people with heart or respiratory problems" on the packaging is something I want to try! Now I like things hot but this stuff is something else and is possibly the hottest salsa I have ever tasted! I don't know how Dave did it but the heat level from the Jalapeno and Habanero combination in this jar is way more than you would expect!!

The Jar itself claims to be the 'Hottest Salsa in the Universe!' and I think that Dave may be right I had a jar in my fridge for nearly a year well past its use by date and guess what no mould even went near it! One day I had the jar out as part of a buffet and a friend tried a bit, we found him in the kitchen with a bottle of milk crying much to our amusement. if you want to experience this then click on the picture or get some here  i want to go insane too with Dave's Gourmet Insanity Salsa

Capitan Bravo Habanero Hot Sauce

Capitan Bravo Habanero Hot Sauce
Capitan Bravo Habanero Hot Sauce
I was pleasantly surprised on receiving this hot sauce through my 'scorchio hot sauce club'. Capitan Bravo is not someone I was aware of and if I am honest would probably not have chosen this chilli if it hadn't been selected for me by luck. Which is why I think it deserves a mention and a mini hot sauce review.

The chili sauce itself comes from Mexican and is 100% HOME-MADE claiming on the bottle "an exceptional flavor for any kind of meal."

The whole feel and flavour of this chile sauce is something different to what you will be used to and this is a good thing! The sauce contains olive oil which emulsifies giving the sauce a consistency like a salad dressing which at first i found very strange. However the distinct flavours of the Mexican grown habanero, carrot, salt, spices and, onion powder combine with the oil in a wonderful way. I have had to think a bit of different ways to use this unique wonderful sauce. It make a tasty but messy taco and great to drizzle over chips or a over dull salad to bring it alive! Where every you might use a dressing in your meals try this hot sauce as a substitute.

I believe it is always good to get some Mexican spirit into you cooking so pick some Capitan Bravo Habanero Hot Sauce up here.

Eden Project Chili Pepper Habenaro

During Easter I went on a drive into the country and stopped off at the Eden Project in Cornwall this was a place I had long wanted to see but the drive is too far for a quick visit. With the tropical sections I had hoped to see the chilli pepper represented and grown somewhere in the vast domes. The Eden Project is build in a disused clay mine, transforming it into a rich, global garden where people can learn about nature and get inspiration about the world around them. The view is very inspirational as you park your car and catch one of the buses into the  project itself. you are surrounded by lush vegetation and all manner of 'green' projects.

The Eden Project
In the reforest Biome near the end of the winding path through the high humidity provides the perfect conditions for for growing spices. I was very please to see that chilli was represented by a large patch of orange Chinese habanero plants. Most of the chillis pictures are not yet ripe but there were hundreds there. So many that i thought they wouldn't miss one and pinched one for the seeds to grow at home. All I need now is to build a biome in the back garden. I will let you know how i get on with growing the Habanero.

Blairs Original Death Sauce

Blair's Original Death SauceBlair has an amazing range of hot sauces from the basic introduction sauce to the extreme and insane sauces. Blair has been making hot sauces since 1989 and has got quite good at it too!! I have tried a number of chilli sauces from this range and so far love every one of them in different ways but they are not for the feint hearted and definitely powerful as you progress up the range.

Blairs Death Rain Chipotle Crisps

If your a chilli fan and you go to buy some crisps or potato chips you will no doubt feel let down by the supermarkets claims on packs of Doritos and Pringles that they have 'hot chile' flavour or be the hottest potato chips. At one of the West Dean Chilli Fiesta in 2010 I stumbled across Blairs Death Rain crisps, and I particularly love the Death Rain Chipotle flavour. Much more punch than normal crisps and the wonderful smokey chilli heat, Blairs have done it again expanding on their range for the lover of true chilli heat claiming on the bag to make snacks that taste great but most of all make you FEEL ALIVE.
